Unique Handpainted and Handcarved Wooden Takahashi Baltimore Oriole. This is an original, made by Japanese prisoners of war after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. This pin is 80 years old and is in perfect condition. The prisoners hand carved the wood, then painted them with watercolors, then applied 10 coats of lacquer to ensure they would last a long time. Each one is different. The legs are made of twisted copper. Truly a work of art that you can wear. The clasp is attached with push pins; that's how you tell the orininals from the reproductions, which were screwed on. They were made in the 1970's. (I have an original Cardinal and 1 Chipping Sparrow reproduction for sale listed separately). Measues 2 long and 1 wide from branch to clasp. Ships from a smoke free/pet free home.
